Avi Flomen (they/them) is an associate with Pape Salter Teillet LLP and specializes in Indigenous rights and Aboriginal law. Avi advises clients on a variety of matters related to Indigenous peoples and the exercise of their Aboriginal and treaty rights.
Prior to joining Pape Salter Teillet LLP, Avi worked as a litigator at a leading litigation boutique in Montréal, Québec. Avi acquired significant experience representing clients before the courts as well as in alternative dispute resolution methods, in both civil and commercial matters. Avi then joined an Indigenous regional government as internal legal counsel where they advised their client on both private and public legal issues related to Indigenous self-government and infrastructure development.
Avi received their civil law and common law degrees from McGill University, as well as a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and Art History. Avi also completed a Masters of Arts at the University of Toronto in Political Science, in an interdisciplinary program in Ethnic, Pluralism, and Immigration Studies, where they focused their studies and research on Indigenous self-government and self-determination.
Avi is called to the bar in Québec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Alberta.
Outside of law, Avi enjoys arts and crafts, and reading and writing science fiction and fantasy.
