Senior Counsel

Michael Templeton is Senior Counsel at Pape Salter Teillet.  Before joining PST, Michael was the co-chair of the Indigenous Tax Group at a major Bay Street law firm where he had practiced law for over 30 years.  Michael specializes in assisting Indigenous governments and organizations in establishing, acquiring and operating commercial enterprises.  He has designed and implemented structures for the acquisition and financing of hydro-electric plants, solar farms, wind farms, transmission lines and highways.  Michael has appeared as counsel before the Superior Court, Tax Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada in more than 50 cases.  He is a former editor of the Current Cases feature of the Canadian Tax Journal and is an instructor at the Tax Law for Lawyers course operated by the Canadian Bar Association.

Michael was called to the Ontario Bar in 1982 and started his career as a lawyer working for the Department of Justice as counsel to the Canada Revenue Agency.

Outside of the law, Michael is passionate about aviation, scuba diving and the outdoors.  He is always delighted to provide service to his clients by flying a small aircraft to attend meetings in remote locations when it is the most cost effective method of travel.
