Jacob Hare

Summer Student

Jacob Hare is a proud member of Temagami First Nation and a third-year law student at the University of Ottawa. He is passionate about using the law to support individuals and communities, particularly those who face systemic barriers to justice. Through his work with Legal Aid Ontario, Jacob has assisted refugee claimants in navigating complex legal processes. In 2025, he participated in the Kawaskimhon National Moot, an experience that deepened his understanding of Indigenous legal traditions and strengthened his commitment to respectful, consensus-based dialogue.

Jacob holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology with a concentration in law from Carleton University. He is currently a member of the University of Ottawa’s Indigenous Law Student Government, the first Indigenous student government of its kind in Canada.

Prior to law school, he worked in the public sector, gaining valuable experience in policy and governance while working closely with Indigenous peoples and communities. Jacob is building a legal career rooted in fairness, community, and justice.
