Alex DeParde BA, JD
Senior Associate
Alex DeParde is a senior associate with Pape Salter Teillet LLP. He specializes in Indigenous rights law, with an emphasis on litigation and dispute resolution.
Alex’s litigation practice focuses on a broad range of areas impacting Indigenous peoples, including constitutional law, treaty and self-government issues, administrative law, and commercial disputes arising from impact and benefit agreements. Alex has represented clients before Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Federal courts, as well as in arbitrations. Alex has also appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on behalf of interveners in Reference re An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families and Dickson v. Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation.
Prior to joining Pape Salter Teillet LLP, Alex practiced civil litigation at a leading national law firm where he advocated for clients on a range of commercial matters, including complex contractual disputes, class action defence, and shareholder disputes. Alex received a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School where he was awarded the Arthur Charles Pape Memorial Prize and the Blaney McMurtry LLP Prize in recognition of his academic achievement in the study of Indigenous legal issues and was awarded the Art and Science of Advocacy Prize in recognition of his achievement in the study of trial advocacy.
Alex is called to the bar in Ontario, Alberta, Northwest Territories and Yukon.
